Pacific Plaza broke ground in April 2018 and is slated to open to the public in fall 2019. Soon, this surface parking lot will be fully transformed into a 3.4-acre neighborhood park in the heart of Downtown. Pacific Plaza will be the center point of the Harwood Street Pedestrian Corridor running from Klyde Warren Park to Main Street Garden to the Farmers Market.
This park features a pavilion designed by HKS, lawn space and large swings that children and adults alike may enjoy. James W. Aston Park, a small pocket park located at the corner of N. Harwood Street and Pacific Avenue, has been folded into the Pacific Plaza design plans and re-dubbed Aston Grove. One block of Live Oak Street has been closed to create a larger, contiguous park and showcase this mature grove of trees along Pacific Avenue.
This idea has been in the queue for over a decade, since the land was acquired in 2008 by the City of Dallas with the support of Trust for Public Land. Parks for Downtown Dallas became involved in 2016 and is paying for the design and construction of Pacific Plaza.
