How to Celebrate Mother’s Day in Dallas

A mother’s love is definitely something worth celebrating, and if you’re looking to make this Mother’s Day extra thoughtful, we’ve got plenty of fun events throughout Dallas that are sure to delight and surprise the mom in your life.

If Mom loves a good home makeover show, historic architecture or interior design, then there’s no better place for her to be this Mother’s Day Weekend than Swiss Avenue. As part of the 46th Annual Mother’s Day Home Tour, moms will be treated to five spectacular early 20th century houses, up-close and personal. These homes feature diverse architectural styles, including a romantic Spanish Revival, an Italianate Mediterranean Villa and a Progressive Style Prairie Foursquare. Moms will also enjoy an open-air art fair, live entertainment, free horse-drawn carriage rides, food and drink and even a play area for the kids. Tickets cost $30.

If the mom you love would rather trade in home design for fashion design, then make sure to stop by the Dallas Museum of Art to see the newly unveiled collection, Dior: From Paris to the World. Featuring more than 70 years of House of Dior history, this exhibit includes more than 100 haute couture dresses, as well as accessories, photographs, original sketches, runway videos and other archival material. The collection will also highlight important figures in fashion, such as founder Christian Dior and subsequent artistic directors like Yves Saint Laurent and Raf Simons. Tickets are $25; DMA members and children under 11 get in free.

Only a few blocks away from the DMA is the Nasher Sculpture Center, which will also be hosting a special Mother’s Day celebration. All moms receive free admission to the museum, which will be providing activities for kids, live music and a photo booth to ensure fun and entertainment for the whole family. The Nasher Café will also have a Mother’s Day brunch menu and specialty cocktail selection.

If Mom always enjoys a day immersed in nature, spend Mother’s Day with the Women’s Chorus of Dallas, which will be hosting a Mother’s Day Concert at the beautiful Texas Discovery Gardens, with showings at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. The choir will perform uplifting songs and conclude with a breathtaking butterfly release. Tickets to the concert also include admission to the botanical gardens and butterfly house, plus family photos taken by a professional photographer. General admission is $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children under 12. The concert runs about one hour. Do note that the 12:30 showing is geared toward families with young children and will include added interactive elements.

Lastly, as part of its Summer at the Arboretum programming, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden will be hosting its own celebration to honor Mother’s Day weekend. On both May 11and 12, the first 100 moms to walk through the gates receive a complimentary rose, and all guests will be treated to live music and free wine and beer samples. The Volunteer Advisory Board will also be onsite to snap family photos, which will be available for purchase. A Mother’s Day brunch will also be held at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with an elaborate menu featuring multiple carving stations, extensive chef’s antipasto displays and more. Guests are requested to make brunch reservations byMay 10.
